Abstract:
Objective To explore the effect of narrative nursing on psychological resilience and anxiety in breast cancer patients with first recurrence.
Methods A total of 60 breast cancer patients with first recurrence in the Department of Oncology, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2018 to January 2019 were selected for a prospective study using convenience sampling. They were divided into observation group and control group, with 30 cases in each group. The control group adopted conventional nursing and the observation group adopted narrative nursing on the basis of conventional nursing. The simplified version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) were used to evaluate psychological resilience and anxiety of patients in two groups before and after intervention. The scores were compared between groups and the scores of patients in the same group were compared before and after intervention using t test.
Results (1) After intervention, the scores of three dimensions and total scores of the CD-RISC in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group (tenacity: t=-0.386, P=0.701; self-reliance: t=0.168, P=0.867; optimism: t=-2.560, P=0.013; total scores: t=7.456, P<0.001). The scores of three dimensions and total scores of the CD-RISC in observation group presented a significant difference before and after intervention (tenacity: t=-3.539, P=0.001; self-reliance: t=-3.667, P=0.001; optimism: t=-8.225, P<0.001; total score: t=-4.357, P<0.001). In control group, only the score in the dimension of optimism showed a significant difference before and after intervention (t=-3.521, P=0.001). (2) After intervention, the SAS score in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group [50.63±5.12 vs 58.82±3.16, t=7.456, P<0.001]. The SAS scores of observation group and control group showed a significant difference before and after intervention (t=12.335, 8.606, both P<0.001).
Conclusion Narrative nursing can significantly improve the psychological resilience and relieve the anxiety in breast cancer patients with first recurrence.
