Abstract:

Objective

To analyze the survival rate of female breast cancer from the populationbased cancer registry data from 2001 to 2007 in Qidong in order to provide a basis for assessing the prognosis and treatment of this disease.

Methods

Eight hundred and fifty-eight registered cases were followed up until December 31, 2009.Cumulative observed survival rate (OS) and relative survival rate(RS) were calculated using SURV3.01 software developed by the Finnish Cancer Registry.

Results

The OS of female breast cancer patients at 1, 3 and 5 years was 84.36% , 73.47% and 66.80% ,respectively; and the RS was 85.40% , 76.26% and 71.10% , respectively.The 5-year RS in patients aged 14—34 years, 35—44 years, 45—54 years, 55—64 years, 65—74 years and ≥75 years was 34.98% , 80.86% , 72.64% , 60.68% , 82.45% , 67.91% and 71.10% , respectively.There was a statistical difference in OS among the six age groups(χ2 =53.93,P=0.00).The 5-year RS of female breast cancer patients in 2001—2007 was 71.10% , which was remarkably improved compared with that in 1972—1976 (54.38%) and 1987—1991 (61.28%) in Qidong.

Conclusions

The overall survival rate of female breast cancer of the registered cases in 2001-2007 in Qidong has been improved greatly.
