Abstract:

Objective

To find out the influencing factors of mastalgia in women in Chengdu district.

Methods

We conducted a questionnaire investigation in 100 females who had visited doctors in Physical Examination Center of People' s Hospital of Sichuan Province, including 50 patients with mastalgia as a mastalgia group and 50 without as a control group. The statistical methods included single factor logistic regression, multiple factor logistic regression and Wilcoxon Rank Sum test.

Results

Single factor analysis showed that taking contraceptives (OR=6.00), history of abortion (OR=2.74), subacute insomnia (OR = 7.03), and chronic insomnia (OR = 30.60) were the risk factors of mastalgia; occasional drinking (< 1 time/month, OR=0.36) and eating vegetable oil were protective factors of mastalgia.Multiple factor logistic regression showed that subacute insomnia(OR=6.38), chronic insomnia (OR=65.42) were the risk factors of mastalgia; Appropriate vegetable oil consumption (once a day, OR=0.27;once a week,OR=0.11;once a moth,OR=0.10) was protective factor for mastalgia.Wilcoxon Rank Sum test indicated that the mastalgia group had higher scores in physical symptoms, compulsion, depression, anxiety, mental hostility, paranoid state and psychiatric symptoms than the control group (P <0.05).

Conclusions

Insomnia is a risk factor of mastalgia for women in Chengdu.Taking vegetable oil once a day can alleviate the pain of the breast.Female patients with mastalgia have more mental problems.
