Clinical application value of immediate breast reconstruction with partial latissimus dorsi muscular flap after breast-conserving operation

Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the clinical application value of using partial latissimus dorsi muscular flap in immediate breast reconstruction after breast-conserving operation.

Methods

From January 2007 to October 2009,25 female patients received immediate breast reconstruction with partial latissimus dorsi muscular flap after breastconserving operation in the Tumor Hospital of Gansu Province. The patients' data were reviewed and analyzed. The traits and indications of the operation were analyzed. The postoperative complications and cosmetic outcome were assessed.

Results

The operation was successful for all patients. The aesthetic outcome was excellent in 19 cases,fair in 5 cases and bad in 1 case. The median fellow up time was 12 months(2-32 months). The reconstructed breasts were demonstrated of good shape and softness. No deformity or severe complications occurred.

Conclusions

Immediate breast reconstruction with partial latissimus dorsi muscular flap has easy operation and less complications. It improves the breast aesthetic effect after breast-conserving surgery. It is a good method.
